Atomos continues to make the marriage between 4K ProRes RAW and a variety of cameras a reality, with the release, now, of the solution for two more cameras. The look of large format video has recently become very popular in Hollywood, with the ability to use high quality lenses with different technical characteristics.
The resulting images have amazing depth, detail and the maximum latitude for post-production — optimal for HDR finishing or to give greater flexibility in SDR Rec. Together, the GFX and Ninja V create a large format camera system that is intuitive to use and light enough to hand hold, place in tight corners or mount onto gimbals.
TV dramas, indie films, corporate productions, documentaries and even motion pictures can now utilise the GFX and Ninja V to get the distinctive look that is set apart from regular full-frame shots. I look forward to seeing films, TV shows and commercials shot with this amazing setup.

Apparently when an external recorder like an Atomos is connected, you only get 60fps. Have a look at this: FCP. One thing I did not try was removing all the cards from the camera first and then record to the Ninja Flame.
Maybe someone else can test this theory. Re: fps with D, only 60p Atomos Ninja Flame. I've been looking to get confirmation on this for ages as I've got a shoot coming up where sponsor obligations are forcing me to shoot on a D - and I really don't want to be stuck with 8bit h.
The only thing I'd read so far is that HDMI triggering is disabled in p mode - and based on that, it sounded as though the camera could output the p, but that you have to engage recording from the Atomos, rather than from the camera. However my interpretation of this could have been wrong.
Hi John. I can confirm with my discussion with Nikon Level 2 that the D records to the xqd card fps, with playback 30p But yes h. Actually, HDMI was never really intended for this kind of workload. It just happens to work with normal recording situations, 24, What puzzles me is when I connect the Flame to the D and I have the D set to shoot slo mo fps 30p, why the signal to the Flame is 60p This leads me to think that there is some processing going on in camera beyond the HDMI link, if that makes any sense.
I'd love to see what you came up with if you test this out. My our goal is to get that fps signal to the Atomos recorder, and get that ProRes xxx file. I just don't know if it is physically possible. What I did not test was pressing record on camera and then record on Atomos. With or without the HDMI trigger.
That could be an interesting test, but I am getting ready for a big project next week so I won't be able to test this. Let me know what you come up with if you dod any testing. Could you point me in the direction that theAtomos hdmi recorders can dofps.
Now you got me really curious.Scan Computers Int. Images: Alas, neither feature are currently possible. To wit myself and my lead camera operator spent and entire day troubleshooting why we couldn't get ProRes RAW option to appear on the Ninja or, why no frame-rate beyond 60p was recognized by the recorder. A support ticket to Atomos was sent - no reply.Sony A7III vs Atomos Ninja V - Is there REALLY a difference?
We contacted two other retailers of both the Z6 and Ninja V and asked if they could get either feature to work, none could.
This all with current firmware on both devices, the proper HDMI 2. My guess is this is a major faux-pa on both Atomos and Nikon; the functionality may yet be coming, but as of today it is not yet actually available.
So if you intend on getting this pairing for these features, hold off for now. There's no official word from either company when these features will actually be activated but don't be hoodwinked like were thinking you can do it now. Details, including the release date of new firmware updates, will be shared at a later date. Originally Posted by Bill Ackerman.

More egregious is the total lack of response from Atomos in my two support tickets for more info to clarify this.
Outside of this snafu, the Ninja V is a fantastic unit, and I should clarify that all other flavors of ProRes are available including HQ which is bit. Just not RAW and no fps higher than 60 at this time. I've returned both the Z6 and Ninja units, but if this gets sorted out and I decide to re-engage I'll share details on workflows.
You know, like back in the day when I did that stuff for you guys. Follow Up: I just spoke to Atomos tech support. The tech did not have an estimated date but suspected "second-half of the year To me this is a major hoodwink in marketing from both companies, and I am definitely going to pursue this further. You must be reading a different internet to me This is not new and gets worse every year. I learned my lesson back in It was a highly glorified video switcher unlike anything else on the market at the time. When it arrived I thought it was defective. I called Sony Professional support and had a shocking conversation. I was told in a very nonchalant way the unit was not defective, the exact phrase was "Those features are not supported yet.
No dates or promises, just "whenever it happens someday" it will work. Sony would not even notify when an upgrade was posted. I had to spend two years randomly checking their professional services website for updates that trickled in. Every Time there was any type of change I had to download a completely new version of the entire OS and reinstall it.
At no time during my research phase did Sony or the distributor mention verbally or in writing anything about the unit not being fully functional. In fact in those days Sony even snail mailed me a beautiful four color glossy multi page brochure touting this thing and a personal letter with it answering a few questions I asked.Record 4K bit RAW with enabled cameras. So it dosent work or what then because I would really love to have that option. I know it sounds a bjt unreal but I would love that. Those of us who require having both slo-mo and normal speed in the same take, shoot at 60p and use it for slowing down to 30p and for normal speed just discard half the frames to 30p.

Works fine. His question pertains to the a7sii, which does have fps internally, his question is whether it can output it through hdmi. But, to be honest, I do not know the answer to either question The reason why you haven't found an answer is because most that own the original a7s would most likely have a shogun or ninja assassin, whereas people that have an a7sii, mostly likely won't have a shogun or assassin because they have the 4K and p internally.
The only problem with the a7sii and the p is the 2. Sorry but yes. No and no. But when you look at it actually 60p through HDMI is pretty damn good, 60p is great for unobtrusive Slo-motion. Since we opened a thread: does any camera at all output higher than 60p through HDMI interface, at any price point, any shape or any brand?
